As shown here, the sensor is attached to a metal shield plate which is mounted to the stick. This type of assembly protects the sensor from external damage by rock and gravel. The ring magnet is attached directly to the idler link. As the idler link rotates in conjunction with the bucket, the ring magnet rotates with respect to the sensor, allowing for direct and accurate bucket position detection.
