The thermal time constant is the time required for a thermistor to change 63.2% of the total difference between its initial and final body temperature when subjected to a step function change in temperature under zero-power conditions. The thermal time constant of Littelfuse’s thermistors is shown on the subject product data sheet. Because the actual time constant of a sensor is dependent upon each unique application, it may be necessary to determine the actual time constant empirically.
