While care must be taken in soldering standard open-bottom receptacles, the critical contact area on the fibre plug receptacle is shielded from solder, solder paste, flux and other contaminants during solder and board wash operations. The fibre plug reliably protects the inside of the receptacle, so hand, wave or reflow soldering can be employed with confidence. Additionally, no extra assembly steps are necessary as the fibre plug is pushed out upon component installation. As it’s non-metal, the fibre plug won’t create a short or inhibit electrical integrity should it become trapped inside the enclosure being used.
