In systems where an analog temperature result is required, silicon temperature sensors provide a good alternative to thermistors or thermocouples. The main benefits are linearity and ease of use (the output is always directly proportional to the temperature) with no signal conditioning or look-up tables required. Both voltage and current output temperature sensors are available from Analog Devices. In the typical application circuit shown, the AD22100 is used in automotive transmission circuits to measure temperature.
