Although the capacitive controllers available now have not been designed to work with capacitive LCD touch screens, it is possible to emulate that capability using a transparent resistive overlay on top of an LCD screen. There would have be a chequered pattern of sensing areas, a transparent overlay divided in squares or rectangles with the number of inputs matching those that the capacitive touch controllers support. Basically, the LCD display must be divided into discrete zones and then a graphic interface is designed with a virtual button on the screen. It is not a full capacitive touch implementation, but in cases where continuous tracking capability is not needed, it is a way in which this can be done. The transparent overlay used would be an ITO (Indium-Tin Oxide) on glass.
