Here is an example of what happens when a POSISTOR® protects against the short circuit failure mode of a capacitor. In normal operation, the current stays around 96 mA and the POSISTOR® stays at its normal resistance. When the capacitor fails short, the current ramps up to around 2.5 A and the POSISTOR®’s resistance sharply increases in response. The POSISTOR® limits the circuit current to less than 330 mA and protects the circuit.
