As shown here, digital isolators can easily be represented as a highway. The number of channels in the digital isolator are the traffic lanes of the road. Signals are the cars. Channel configuration represents the number of traffic lanes in one direction and the number of traffic lanes in the other direction. The figure on the right shows the 4-channel digital isolator with a 2/2 channel configuration.
