Open bottom receptacles offer many advantages within PCB designs. However, concerns arise regarding the internal contact becoming exposed to contaminants during soldering operations. Solder can inadvertently wick into the contact area rendering the receptacle defective. Mill-Max has eliminated these concerns and introduced their Organic Fibre-plug receptacle. These receptacles are fitted with an organic plug at the bottom of the receptacle which protects the contact from soldering and assembly processes. Once soldered, the mating lead is plugged in to the receptacle, and the plug is knocked out. The mating lead extends past the internal contact, making a reliable electrical connection.
