Using the last example POL #1 needs to provide 0.7V at 16A, consider using the TDK-Lambda IAF12020A007V-003-R converter. First the customer needs to check out the specifications! The rated input voltage is 4.5V to 14V, so it will operate off 12V – Good, it can deliver 20A at 0.7V – Good. Next the user needs to check if the device can operate okay thermally, and for this example the maximum ambient is 50°C and no fan cooling – so the user has to use the natural convection (NC) rating. From the graph shown here one can see that the POL can deliver 16A at 90°C, so there is some derating – Good.
