Slew rate is the maximum rate of change of an amplifier’s output in response to a step change at the input. Shown here is a step change on the input, with the output of the op amp ramping up in response. Slew rate limits the bandwidth of large signals. It is a good idea to check the bandwidth of the part first, then check the maximum frequency the slew rate can support. The equation at the bottom of the slide can be used to calculate the maximum input frequency when the amplifier’s slew rate and peak output voltage are known.
