In load switching applications a MOSFET is used in series with a load to apply power to the load. Shown here is a circuit of a MOSFET in a load switching application with the MOSFET’s gate controlled by a microcontroller. Since the MOSFET is in series with the load, the full load current passes through the switch. In high current applications, conduction losses through the MOSFET become an important factor in minimizing power losses.
