Delta-Sigma converters over-sample the input signal and use a feedback loop to shape the output. Because Delta-Sigma converters average a sample over a period of time, a degree of noise filtering can be seen. This is the opposite of SAR converters, which take snapshots of the signal at a given point in time. SAR converters then use comparators to reject ranges of voltages in succession until a reasonable approximation has been obtained. This approximation is then transmitted digitally. Pipeline converters deliver extremely fast conversion speeds by dividing the conversion into stages. It divides the signal into ranges, acting similarly to a SAR ADC, and is able to achieve its high sampling rates.
