Samples taken of analog signals are converted at a certain rate. The rate at which the samples are taken is the sampling frequency. The sampling frequency is a key parameter in the selection of a data converter and is measured in samples per second. Nyquist’s rule states that to avoid signal aliasing, the sampling frequency must be greater than at least twice the greatest frequency in the signal.
