Resolution in data converters is measured in number of bits. The number two, raised to the power n, is the number of analog levels that a data converter can detect or produce. For instance, a 10-bit data converter can detect or produce 1,024 different digital outputs. A data converter is said to have no missing codes, or NMC, if it can produce all of these digital outputs.
